Pistol HFT rules
Safety
• When a single blast of a whistle or hooter is heard all shooting activities must immediately stop. Shooters must discharge their pistols safely into the ground, away from the target, at a safe distance. During a cease fire the pistol will either be pointed downwards or cased, targets must not be sighted or the pistol aimed in any way. Upon hearing two blasts of the whistle or hooter, the pistol may be reloaded & shooting can continue.
• All pistols must be carried to the firing line in a secure case or bag, holsters may not be used at any time.
• Pistols should only be removed from the case when actually shooting the course.
• Pistols must only be sighted or discharged over the designated firing line.
• Pistols should be uncocked & unloaded when moving between lanes or not in use.
• Unless actually taking a shot or when cased all pistols must be pointed down at all times.
• Multi shot pistol magazines must only be loaded with one shot at a time & the magazine must be removed between lanes & when cased.
• A buddy marshalling system will be operated so it is the responsibility of each competitor to visibly check each others gun safety. Failure to comply can result in expulsion from the ground & disqualification from both the pistol & main event.
• If you are approached by a marshal for any reason i.e. shooting technique or safety please do as they have asked, please remember they are there to make sure the course if shot safely & fairly. In the case of a dispute, the head marshal can be called, their decision is final. Organisers are not marshals & should not be approached on these matters.
Course of fire
• Each course will consist of 10 or 15 knockover style targets, with 35-45mm kills, set out at distances from 8 yards to 25 yards & the corresponding number of pegs (One target per peg). You can use any natural objects to rest your gun on when taking a shot, but some part of your body must be in contact with the shooting peg. Targets positioned to allow supported shots should not use a peg, the support will be classed as the peg.
• Shooting pegs should be positioned 1-2ft behind the firing line, this allows the shooter to touch the peg without being in danger of crossing the line of fire. The pistol may be in front of the firing line as long as the shooter is toughing the peg & both their feet & torso are behind the line.
• You may use a UK legal air/CO2 pistol with or without a scope/red dot sight
• The course is to consist of 60% freestyle shots (see class rules below) & 40% positional shots, these positional shots will be :-
1. 20% One handed Standing without the aid of any external support. (un-supported)
2. 20% Kneeling (or standing), this is to be shot using the HFT kneeling stance but the arms must be extended & the pistol must not supported by any part of the body other than the hands. The kneeling shots may be shot standing if required
• The scoring system will be 2 points for a hit on the kill zone which results in the target falling over, 1 point for a hit on the face plate & zero points for a complete miss of the target. Each target will be shot twice before moving onto the next lane.
• As per the standard UKAHFT rules not alterations to the pistol, stock, sights or scope can be made once the first target is sighted.
Style Variations
Traditional
During shooting a one or two hand, arms extended stance is to be used and any trees/posts on the firing line may be used for support as long as the shot is taken standing with only the feet touching the ground. At no stage should the pistol be supported by any part of the body other than the hands or be allowed to rest on the ground. The only exception to this rule is when taking either a one handed or kneeling positional shot, as explained above
Freestyle
During shooting the pistol may be held in an over the arm style or in a standing rifle type stance, any trees/posts on the firing line may be used for support as long as the shot is taken standing with only the feet touching the ground . At no stage should the pistol be supported by any part of the body other than the hands/arms or be allowed to rest on the ground. The only exception to this rule is when taking either a one handed or kneeling positional shot, as explained above. At no time should the pistol be supported by the head, chest or shoulder.
Entry Classes
• Traditional - using a pistol scope or red dot sight.
• Traditional – using open sights.
• Traditional – using a spring powered recoiling pistol with any of the above sighting methods. Alternatively a recoiling pistol can be entered into one of the above classes instead, if required.
• Freestyle – using any scope, red dot, open sights.
